Please Help Me Understand...

At the risk of appearing close-minded, let me ask this question: why do people NEED alcohol to be more social?

No, you know what? Nevermind. Don't answer that. Because nothing anyone says can make me understand.

I just can't fathom why someone with an awesome personality would want to damage brain cells so they can look like an idiot in front of a bunch of other idiots. If you're social enough without the junk, you don't need a boost. And if your associates think you need a boost, perhaps you should find other people to associate with-- ones who appreciate you without alcohol.

I just had to get that off my chest.

  2. Yeah, I never planned on starting. I can see what drinking does to people, and I don't need that for myself.

  3. I couldn't agree more. Everyday in my classes I hear students talking about how much they drank that weekend and how much fun they had while drunk and all the stupid stuff they did while they were drunk. :-/ I guess throwing up, passing out, looking like a fool, waking up in a strange place and not remembering anything is their idea of fun.

I have yet to get a legitimate answer either.

  4. I personally think that your argument is with moderation and personal responsibility. Yeah there are people out there who drink with the sole purpose of getting completely hammered, but the definition that those with responsibility use for "social" drinking are those who just have one or two in one night will relaxing and unwinding with others. This here... I honestly can say frustrates me just a little bit when the generalization is made like EVERYONE that drinks goes through only what YOU hear about, get from exaggerations and what you witness from the few idiots out there.

  5. Drinking PERIOD kills brain cells, whether a person gets sloppy drunk or not. Why can't a person unwind without alcohol. When does it get to a point where you HAVE to have alcohol to unwind?

  6. Well I can't answer all those questions. It's never bothered me to that point.. I believe in moderation.. there's two sides

  7. Music/exercise/meditation/almost anything can help you unwind. Why pick something thats harmful? I do agree that their is a responsible and a irresponsible way to drink. But why drink at all?
